The Benefits of Mangosteen fruit has been known in southeast Asia for over 400 years.

It is a small purple fruit about the size of a tangerine, which has traditionally been used to treat inflammation, dysentery, and skin disorders. It was also used to fight infection by boiling up the rind, also know as the pericarp, into a tea.

As early as 1855, a German scientist identified mangostin, a powerful antioxidant, known as a xanthone, which appeared to fight infection, fungus, bacteria, histamines and possibly cancer.

210 xanthones have been identified in nature, and over 40 of those have been found in the pericarp of the mangosteen fruit.
