Antioxidant Facts:
Natural Antioxidants Stop
Free Radical Damage

Antioxidant Facts 1:

Antioxidants are responsible for disarming free radicals, preventing them form damaging healthy cells.

As free radicals attack cells, an inflammatory process develops as the body fights to clear out the damaged cells. Typically, this manifests itself in pain and swelling and can be identified with such conditions as rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, and asthma.

When the damage gets deep into the cell, to the DNA, the potential for the development of cancerous cells increases. This is especially true in areas where there is constant and frequent cellular change as in the digestive system.

Free radicals are also responsible for the oxidation of cholesterol. Once it is oxidized, the cholesterol becomes sticky and forms a plague buildup on the artery walls. Once there is enough buildup, arteries become blocked resulting in strokes or heart attacks.

The following is a graphic demonstration of how an antioxidant disarms the free radical

An antioxidant molecule has a main body which has an equal number of electrons, and a side chain(or an "R" group, to use a chemistry term) which has an extra electron.

Free radicals are lacking one electron. Having an unpaired electron makes these radicals very unstable. If there isn't an antioxidant around to get an extra electron from, then the radicals will start attacking healthy cells to find one.

They take that electron from another molecule, stabilizing themselves, and in doing so, create a new free radical. This new unstable molecule starts the search all over again for another cell to get an electron from.

A chain reaction develops causing repeated damage to healthy cells, first attacking the cell membrane and then working its way through to the DNA of the cell. This is the beginning of disease processes which debilitate our bodies with degenerative conditions, inflamed tissues, compromised immune systems and cancer, just to name a few.

When there is an antioxidant molecule available, the free radical will take the extra electron from that and become neutralized. The free radical is stabilized without creating a new free radical or damage to a healthy cell. The free radical is then flushed out through the kidneys, so it can do no more harm.

Of course, this is an over-simplified version of what happens, but it's intent is to help give you a basic understanding of how antioxidants neutralize free radicals, so they cannot continue to harm healthy tissue.

Antioxidant Facts 2:

It is critical that you have a daily supply of antioxidants to prevent damage to all of the different organs of your body. The antioxidant stops the chain reaction of damage.

Antioxidant Facts 3:

As I have pointed out in other pages of this website, when you exercise, you produce additional free radicals as the body converts food into energy. So, whether you exercise on a regular basis or just occasionally, antioxidants are an important part of your exercise program.

Combined, they enable you to improve and maintain your health.

I have written an E-book designed to help you have an understanding how you can prevent the damage from free radicals, both during exercise and during your regular daily routines.

The E-Book is Free, and is loaded with great information.

It...

  • Helps you focus on the positive side of exercising,

  • Identifies what your muscles need to produce high amounts of energy on demand

  • Explains the roll of liquids and minerals in increasing endurance, response time, and over-all performance, and

  • Discusses how a good supply of antioxidants reduces the damaging effects of free radicals and actually helps tissues heal.

Take a few seconds now to fill in the form below...In less than a minute you will be reading all about How To
